July, 2005 July 20thIt's great being in the same room as Brandon. He plays killer lead and has a great voice to match. We're both into that same brand of rock--AC/DC, Skynard, Stones, Black Crowes. Went Shopping the other day for new clothes. Can't get into all the new style clothes, but luckily there are a bunch of vintage stores on Melrose. Tara found the most perfect suede fringe vest, which she was nice enough to give to me. I look like Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider. Feels like 1971. July, 2005 July 15thRehearsed my next song with the band - Bryan Adams' "Summer of '69". Great song. Makes me think of high school kids blasting rock and making out. Oddly enough, it also makes me think of summer and the year 1969. Go figure. I'm gonna slay this tune. In rehearsal, I came up with the idea to play guitar with the band. It'll be cool to show some playing onstage, although it limits me a little performance - wise. Screw it…I'm here to rock and have fun. I have no idea who's reading this. But baby, if you're reading, I love you and your support is my strength in all of this. Neal July 14thPretty Rad. I've made it past the first two rounds of cuts. I'm having a blast. A big, fat juicy thank you to everyone who voted for me. You're sensational people. We had our first clinic today. Dave is a sweetheart - really supportive and encouraging. We checked out a bunch of wild clothes. I'm a pretty simple dude - jeans, t-shirt and maybe a bracelet. So it was really cool trying stuff on that I probably could never afford. Down the road I'd like to tap into a little glam - skin tight leather pants, silver glitter, etc… I love that Iggy Pop/early Axel Rose style. When I was working at my desk job, my friend Greg gave me this killer gift. It had a picture of two guitars criss-crossing and underneath it said, "Rock-N-Roll will never die!!" It was a great thing to stare at it while I was filing paper. Now I can raise my fist and shout at the devil. Rock-N-Roll -- July, 2005 Rock Star:INXSI expect that Rock Star: INXS will be an incredible experience. Music has never paid the bills for me, so it's gonna be pretty rad to put all of my focus and energy into something so positive and creative. I've worked desk jobs for 10 years now and contrary to popular opinion, standing in front of a 4-foot copy machine is not the ideal place to get the creative juices flowing. On a personal level, the most difficult part about doing this show is being away from my wife and making the choice to be part of this show was a huge decision for us. Luckily, I'm with someone so supportive and encouraging. As far as the show, I'm guessing that the band will put us through a series of tests to see how we handle things associated with being the lead singer for a hugely popular rock band. I'm not sure exactly what this might entail - maybe doing interviews, maybe performing blindfolded, juggling swords, swallowing fire, etc. - but I'm cool with all of it. |
